Thor’s hammer here to stay! Volvo XC60 officially launched in Malaysia!

Volvo has just recently launched the award-winning Volvo XC60 which is the smaller version of the Volvo XC90. There will be 4 different variants that will be sold in the Malaysian market. With one of it being a CBU that is imported from Volvo’s home country, Sweden. The fully imported unit will be the XC60 T8 Twin Engine Inscription Plus that is carrying a price tag of RM373,888.

The locally assembled units are the XC60 T5 which cost RM298,888, the T8 Twin Engine Inscription at RM333,888 and last but not least the T8 Twin Engine Inscription Plus that costs RM343,888. All the prices listed are OTR and is excluding of insurance. The RM10,000 difference between the T8 Twin Engine Inscription and the Plus variant is the Premium Sound by Bowers & Wilkins, a 15- speaker sound system.

Specifications wise, all 3 variants of the XC60 is powered by the same 2,000 cc 4-cylinder engine. The power output for the T5 is 254 horsepower @ 5,500 RPM while the T8 hybrid has a combined output of 407 horsepower @ 5,500 RPM, which is quite a significant difference I’d say. The torque produced by the T5 variant is 350Nm while the T8s produces 640Nm.

Every variant shifts through an 8-speed auto Geartronic transmission. The T5 runs on a 235/60R18 wheels while the T8 runs on a slightly larger rim size of 235/55R19 and the rims are either the 5-double spoke rims or the 10-open spoke rims are finished in black with a diamond cut finish.

With the figures out of the way, let’s move on to our opinion on the car itself. Overall, the car looks stunning. As we all know, Volvo has always been the segment leader in safety, and the new XC60 is no exception especially with its latest Intellisafe safety system that is even more advance from the ones from the XC90. As for this price range, you are basically getting the most bang for buck in the segment for the most performance, standard equipment and safety features.
