Blueshark R1 Smart Electric scooter revealed at International Electric Mobility Showcase 2022!

R1 Smart scooter in Blueshark Blue

Here it is for the first time since their announcement of their arrival in Malaysia, “The World’s Most Advanced Smart Electric Scooter”. The R1 was Sharkgulf Technologies Group’s first ever entry into the Malaysian land, with the help of the local automotive manufacturer, EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) to introduce a new kind of electric solution for two wheeled form of personal transportation. This scooter has a 5kW single motor and when engaged in Turbo mode, which is the fastest speed setting available in the driving mode, it churns out 201nm of torque. Despite the Turbo name, it can only do 80km/h top speed and you can’t jump off ramps with it like K.I.T.T from Knight Rider.

The available driving modes are Eco, Normal, Sport, and of course the fastest one, Turbo. They even claimed that the scooter can accelerate from 0 to 50km/h in 4.9 seconds which is insanely quick for a small scooter. The total 2,880Wh batteries will allow you to ride up to 160KM from a fully charged battery, and charging the single battery from 0 – 100 percent will take around 3.5 hours using a dedicated power brick charger. Charging cable will be provided to charge the scooter directly into a wall power point.

The main attraction for this scooter is the fact they implemented a system where you can swap out either one or both batteries ( yes this scooter has two removable batteries ) and swap out with a fully recharged one at their battery swapping stations. This is soon to be tested and planned to be placed at a Petronas fueling station or any other stations in the future so riders can have a quick recharge instead of charging it for about 7.5 hours from 0-100 percent. Commercial pilot program will start by November of 2022.

The scooter can still be used if either only one of the batteries are inside the scooter but with a very limited range and a top speed to just 38km/h. The 48V battery itself is said to weigh at about 120kg so it isn’t too heavy for anyone who is able to ride a scooter and carrying one of those. In one of the future plans, Blueshark has mentioned that they will introduce a subscription plan for a limited amount of batteries that you can swap out at the swapping station pretty soon.

This is their new Linux based operating system called ArkRide OS that runs this scooter and interacts with the scooter. It supports 4G or 5G internet connectivity to download data for the navigation, system notifications, software updates and more. It has Bluetooth connectivity so that you can pair the scooter with your smartphone whether its your Google Android or Apple iOS smartphone and do things like playing music by using the Spotify app. Keyless access is also available so that you won’t need to unlock and ride the scooter with the dedicated remote key and you can do that with your smartphone via the app.

Another interesting feature that this scooter has is the fact that it has front and rear cameras for the ADAS safety feature. It acts as a video recorder so it records your riding footages and a reverse camera when you use the creeping feature to reverse or move forward for parking.

So far, this scooter is shaping up to be a revolution in personal urban transportations without the expense of engine maintenance and refuelling. A start to pursue the move for a greener city. No official prices being released yet, as this will be revealed in Q3 of 2023.
