World premier of Freedom Riders Asia travel series!
On the 15th of May, I was really fortunate to be invited by Shell Advance for the world premiere of Freedom Riders Asia documentary travel series which will be airing soon on STAR Sports channel. It took place at the elegant Saloma Theatre Restaurant located in Kuala Lumpur, just nearby the Petronas Twin Towers.
Freedom Riders Asia is a new “six-part adventure travel series celebrating man and motorcycle on the move across six Asian countries” which will debut with its first episode taking place in Malaysia, followed by episodes in the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, and Thailand respectively.
The show will be hosted by English TV adventurer, actor and motorbike enthusiast Charley Boorman where in each episode, he will get to meet with local biking communities and get to learn more about the bike cultures from each country…

“In the debut Malaysia episode, viewers will get to see Charley learn the important role the motorcycle plays for many individuals in their daily lives along with taking on a challenge with a well-known local biking personality that will see him fighting for his very reputation!”
This includes Charley experiencing first hand on how is it like being a “roti man” selling bread and snacks on a tiny and overladen Honda motorcycle, taking part in a local motocross competition as well as racing around the Sepang F1 circuit for the very first time in a high-end 1199 Ducati Panigale S superbike.
The 30 minute long (without advertisements) debut episode was definitely very entertaining to watch, especially seeing humorous Charley experiencing unique local bike cultures in Malaysia and trying them out himself for the very first time. If I have one complaint on the show, it would be that it is too short. Before you know it, the 30 minutes of entertaining content is over.
After the first episode premiere, people from the media had the opportunity for a short Q&A session with Charley Boorman himself, Shell Advance Global Brand Manager Kar-Tai Koh, as well as Simeon Dawes who is the Senior Vice President, Advertising Sales and Partnerships, Asia Pacific & The Middle East of FOX One Stop Media. Hosting the Q&A session and also the whole event was sports journalist and presenter at Fox Sports Asia, Michelle Holland.
After the Q&A session, there was a quiz challenge for the media where I was fortunate to have won an awesome Lego motorbike set. I’ve even got Charley Boorman to sign the box of my Lego set too! The whole event ended with a small buffet dinner for everyone there, and I believe everybody who were present that day at the event went home feeling content, especially those who have won prizes.
I do highly recommend everyone to check out Freedom Riders Asia no matter if you’re a motorhead or not. Charley’s humour when interacting with the locals and getting to see cultures from so many different countries alone makes this series worth a watch. The full schedule of the show is below:
