Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series officially revealed!
Attention wealthy civilians! Are you feeling extremely excited about your recent delivery of your spanking new Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe? Oh you also opted for the optional Performance Package which gives it a bit more power and some carbon styling bits? Good good, I would love to congratulate you for the great honor of owning the very top-of-the-line C-Class…..for the shortest period of time in history!
That’s because you will soon get to buy the model placed above the top-of-the-line model, the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series! Sounds confusingly similar right? But have a look at that long name again and you will notice an unintentionally racist sentence located right at the end. Yup, the Black Series.

Despite the name, there is hardly anything black about it except for the dark interior and we lighter-toned people can still buy one. So what are the changes compared to the “normal” C63 AMG Coupe? Well as you can see from these photos, the car is now much more aggressive-looking.
To achieve that intimidating look, the Black Series will feature a much more larger front air-intakes, larger bulged aluminium hood, large bonnet vents, large rear bumper, and large quad-exhaust which looks a bit out of place. So what Mercedes is trying to prove is that you can create an aggressive-looking car just by making every bits a bit larger.
Being the top-of-the-line model you may think that there will be no more options left to tick. Mercedes-Benz however, decided to squeeze out more money from our pockets by offering the AMG Track Package (sports tire and active rear-axle transmission cooling) as well as the AMG Aerodynamics Package which gives you a functional front air splitter and a fixed carbon-fiber rear aerofoil with adjustable blades. Even tinted windows are an optional extra on a car like this.
What’s the point of all these exterior changes if there is none of the power to match it’s looks. Well, good news! Or bad ones if you just got the C63 AMG Coupe. That’s because the Black Series produces 30hp more than the C63 AMG Coupe with Performance Package. Now with a bountiful 510hp from it’s AMG 6.3-liter V8 engine, the Black Series can accelerate from 0-100kph in 4.2 seconds.
Stopping all those power in time are huge AMG cross-drilled brakes but more heat resistance and more expensive ceramic brakes are available as well as an option. Wearing those brakes would be 19 inch rims painted in titanium grey and then polished. Mercedes claims that these forged wheels are eleven kilos lighter than conventionally designed wheels.
Weight savings actions are also taken for the interior of the Black Series. Instead of covering it’s two AMG sports bucket seats with exquisite Nappa leather or other cow skins, Mercedes decided to use black DINAMICA microfiber which are apparently lighter than leather. The door panels, center console, as well as steering wheel are covered with these things with contrasting red stitching. However, the only thing Mercedes allows you to cover with Nappa leather is the steering wheel…..as an option of course.
The rear seats had also been removed to further save weight. Once again as an option, Mercedes will put those rear seats back in if you wanna scare the heck out of two more friends/enemies. The only difference is that those rear seats would be two sports bucket seats instead of a three-seater bench seat from the C-Class Coupe. The Black Series is then finished off with loads of Black Series badges everywhere around the car.
Mercedes-Benz had only just revealed the photos and details of the C63 AMG Coupe, but the official launch for the car will take place at the F1 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring on the 23rd of July 2011. The price of the C63 AMG Black Series is a huge €115,430 and you will only get to buy it next year January. So to all current C63 AMG Coupe owners, enjoy you few months left of owning the best C-Class in the range. Because the Black Series is coming.
