Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster officially revealed!
After almost a year the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was launched, the convertible version is finally here! Before the car is going to be shown at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz had released photos as well as technical data of the car.
Officially called the SLS AMG Roadster, the car will feature a 3-ply folding (folds in 3) fabric roof which will be folded in 11 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h. That’s very impressive considering most roof require longer time to fold and could only fold on a standstill. More impressive is that the roof will not take up any of the 173 liters of boot space when folded back.
Losing the roof also meant that the overall structural strength would be affected and therefore result in worse handling due to the extra weight needed to make it strong. Mercedes-Benz therefore had made many modification to the chassis to strengthen up the whole car. Despite these modification, Mercedes-Benz claimed that the Roadster only weighs 40kg more than the coupe at 1661kg.
Powered by the same 6.3-liter V8 engine as the coupe, the car produces 563 hp and is connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. And with a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds, the top speed is identical to the coupe at 197 mph (317 km/h).
The SLS AMG Roadster will have full leather interior, metal and carbon fiber interior trims, and AMG sports seats with AIRSCRAF ( an air vent located at the seat’s headrest which blows warm air on to the occupants’ neck during cold weather). Optional equipments includes a Bang & Olufsen audio system as well as an AMG Performance Media system which can display engine oil, coolant and transmission fluid temperature, engine output, torque accelerator position, individual tire pressures, and many other performance data you don’t have to know.
No prices have been announced yet, but expect the Roadster to be priced slightly higher than it’s coupe sibling. The SLS AMG Roadster will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and in the meantime, enjoy the huge gallery below as well as a short video on the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster!
