After almost a year the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was launched, the convertible version is finally here! Before the car is going to be shown at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz had released photos as well as technical data of the car.

Officially called the SLS AMG Roadster, the car will feature a 3-ply  folding (folds in 3) fabric roof which will be folded in 11 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h. That’s very impressive considering most roof require longer time to fold and could only fold on a standstill. More impressive is that the roof will not take up any of the 173 liters of boot space when folded back.

Losing the roof also meant that the overall structural strength would be affected and therefore result in worse handling due to the extra weight needed to make it strong. Mercedes-Benz therefore had made many modification to the chassis to strengthen up the whole car. Despite these modification, Mercedes-Benz claimed that the Roadster only weighs 40kg more than the coupe at 1661kg.
