Crossing Over the Benchmark. All-New BMW X3 launched in Malaysia!

BMW Group Malaysia has just introduced the all-new third generation X3, the mid-sized Sports Activity Vehicle impresses with enhanced dynamic design, sporting ability and state of the art connectivity technology on a mission to push boundaries in the premium segment. For the first time the BMW X3 is made available from launch as a locally assembled vehicle.

With sharper designs and distinctive looks the All-New BMW X3 elevates the already bold dynamic language of its predecessor to new, even more eye-catching territory which threads the familiar BMW X family path in combining rugged off-road looks with sporting presence. The exterior dimensions of the X3 may be largely unchanged, but it has a five-centimetre-longer wheelbase compared to the predecessor. With its finely balanced proportions the X3 has perfect 50:50 weight distribution giving it the edge over the previous model.

So what’s new visually with the exterior of the All-New X3 compared to its predecessor? Starting off with the new “three-dimensional” kidney grille and fog lamps that feature a hexagonal design, a first for a BMW X model. LED headlights with low and high-beam, side lights and cornering lights. The X3 also features high-beam assistant which switches head lights to high-beam when required. The underbody protection in Frozen Grey and high-gloss Chrome.

As for wheels it sits on 19” light alloy wheels double spoke bi-color Ferric Grey. As for the rear, it’s been refreshed with full-LED light clusters which gives the rear of the car a more rear presence together with a downward-sloping roof spoiler and rain exhaust tailpipes gives the car a more muscular outlook. As for tailgate convenience, it’s fitted with a contact-less boot operation which is part of the comfort access system.

As for performance, the all-new X3 uses the usual TwinPower Turbo 2.0 in-line four-cylinder petrol engine mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sports Transmission. It does the 0-100km/h sprint in just 6.3 seconds with a top speed of 240km/h. The X3 churns out 252hp and 350Nm of torque which is not bad I must say for its size due to its light-weight construction which has shed 55kg compared to its predecessor.

Together with a coefficient drag factor of 0.29 as a result, a balance between a dynamic yet efficient design is achieved. As being a BMW the X3 is equipped with Driving Experience Control which has four driving modes.

Is it capable off-road? With perfect 50:50 weight distribution, typically well-honed chassis from the Bavarian car maker, the xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and Hill Descend Control should make the All-New X3 a very capable off-roader. The car is also equipped with Dynamic Stability Control which helps split power to the four wheels equally and can be constantly varied to always produce the handling that BMW is renowned for.

As for the interior, it’s very BMW meaning it’s driver-focused and ergonomically optimized. One should look at the GLC or XC60 if they want more wow factor. Upon entering the you will be welcomed into the leather wrapped & contrast stitched sport seats.

For the Luxury line, the X3 offers a Sensatec covered instrument panel with contrast stitching and dark oak fine wood interior trim strips with accent strip in Pearl Chrome. As for mood lighting the X3 offers six ambient lighting color tones as well as a welcome light carpet as seen on the 7 series. When it comes to parking convenience, the X3 has a reverse camera and parking assistant aids with auto parking.

Colors offered for the All-New X3 includes Terra Brown, Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver and Alpine White. As for interior, the leather Vernasca Black is best paired with Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver and Terra Brown whereas the Leather Vernasca Mokka is best paired with Alpine White and Black Sapphire.

So how much does the All-New X3 go for?
