The Last of the Gallardo. The Squadra Corse!

Lamborghini Gallardo Squadra Corse

What you are looking at right now just might be the very last variant of the Gallardo before a replacement model arrives in a few years time. If this is really going to be the last Gallardo variant, then you might be disappointed to hear that it is actually just a Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale with the new facelift look.

This is neither a bad or good news though, as this still means it is as close to the Gallardo Super Trofeo racing car as you can get for the road. Using the familiar V10 petrol engine producing 570 hp, and weighing just 1340 kg dry, the Squadra Corse is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and achieve a top speed of 320 km/h. Again, exactly the same figures as the Superleggera and the Super Trofeo Stradale variants.

Squadra Corse simply means racing team, so I’m sure it sounds just as confusing to Italians as to us when translated. “So you drive a Gallardo Racing Team eh?”. Still, could be worse, could have been called LaGallardo. Jokes aside, the Squadra Corse can still teach the 458 Italia a thing or two in terms of performance despite having been around for much longer.

As this is pretty much exactly the same as the Super Trofeo Stradale, you will still get that huge rear wing and a completely removable engine hood with a quick-release system from the actual racing car, with both components made of carbon composite materials and painted in matte black.

Another exterior feature which differentiates the Squadra Corse from the Super Trofeo Stradale are the Italian flag side decals à la Veneno. As for the interior, you get tons of Alcantara and carbon fiber all around the cabin (just like the Super Trofeo Stradale) and a metal plate with the Squadra Corse name embossed just to remind you which Gallardo you’re in. Well, I did mentioned that they are both pretty much the same car did I?

So why another special edition Gallardo with exactly the same technical specifications? The reasons are obvious. And producing just 50 of these instead of the 150 units of the Super Trofeo Stradale means that Lamborghini can charge you just under 300,000USD for one with no trouble selling each one of it. Because to some, exclusivity alone is worth the extra money. But mostly because is a Lamborghini.
