2012 BMW M5 officially revealed!

The killer 5-Series is finally here! The most powerful saloon car from BMW is finally revealed after some photos was leaked into the internet. Everything about this car shouts performance and is totally different from the previous M5. Behold the 2012 BMW M5!

Now the whole world is about saving fuel and saving the environment. More and more car manufacturers are offering turbocharged or supercharged engines to get more power out of smaller engines and saving more fuel compared to using a much larger naturally aspirated engine. BMW is one of them.

The previous generation M5 uses a 5 liter V10 producing 500hp. Sounds very powerful already, but wait till you see the new M5’s. The new M5 may be using a downsized 4.4 liter V8, but with BMW’s M TwinPower Turbo technology means that it produces over 560hp!

The new engine is not only more powerful and produces 30% more torque, but it is also 30% more fuel efficient than the previous model using 9.9 liters of fuel every 100km. A win-win situation I can say. However, hardcore BMW M fans may miss the more delicious sound of the old v10. Rest of us won’t seem to mind at all. The huge amount of air needed to feed the turbocharged engine also means that the engine resembles an octopus with all those air pipes sticking out from the engine.

The 4.4 liter V8 can propel the new M5 from 0-62mph/100kmh in under 4.4 seconds (not a typo, is really a coincidence) and a limited top speed of 155mph/250kph. Pay more for the optional M Driver’s package and BMW will raise the top speed to 190mph/305kph but it is still a limited top speed. With no speed limiter, expect the M5 to be able to reach well over the 200mph mark into supercar territory.

Distinguishing itself from the normal 5-Series would be the aggressive front bumper with huge air-intakes, gloss black kidney grille, side vents with indicators, side skirts, rear diffuser, subtle rear boot spoiler, and of course those polished quad exhaust pipes. Exclusive paints like this car in Monte Carlo blue is also available only for the M5.

The M5 also come as standard with these huge 19 inch five twin-spoke rims which also allows us to admire it’s huge disc brakes very well. Optional 20 inch rims are available as well but the design covers up the brakes and those beautiful painted calipers. Save your money and stick with the already awesome 19 inch rims.

The interior also has some minor changes specially for the M5. The speedometer and dials are now back lit with white light instead of the usual light orange. The 10.2 inch iDrive system also features a blue theme and allows you to control most functions of the car for example sat-nav, radio, suspension settings etc. An M button is also featured on the M5’s steering wheel which actually just makes the whole car more powerful and sportier to drive.

You also get to choose from a huge combination of leather colors for the Merino leather sport seats and even a leather covered dashboard. The interior will also have generous amount of aluminium trims and also Anthracite headliner (black color). As the top-of-the-line model, it is not surprising for the M5 to be fully laden with standard equipment and gadgets including adaptive xenon headlights and also night vision.

No pricing have been announced yet but don’t expect it to be cheap at all. BMW had only released details and photos of the car. The world will soon get to see the real car in the metal at June 23rd M Festival and also the Frankfurt Motor Show. In the meantime, enjoy a short clip below and a huge gallery of the all-new 2012 M5!
