Volkswagen had recently announced their participation in the World Rally Championship (WRC) during the eve of Rally Sardinia. Shocking every other rivals with this new contender, the Polo R WRC rally car!
With over 300bhp from it’s tiny 1.6 TSI turbocharged engine, many modifications must have been made to extract this much power from such a small engine. Nevertheless, Volkswagen still have to follow the new, and more stricter regulations to even out the battlefield.
“The new Technical Regulations of the WRC are an ideal fit for Volkswagen’s philosophy with respect to the development of production vehicles,” said Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Management Board, Development Division of Volkswagen.
Besides looking extremely good and aggressive with those flared arches, air scoop, and huge rear spoiler, the other thing which caught my eye is the name Polo R WRC. The word WRC aside, does this mean that Volkswagen is going to launch a R version of the Polo in the future? We have the Golf R and so a Polo R would join the performance lineup just fine!
