2012 BMW 6-Series Coupe finally revealed!

In January, BMW officially revealed their latest 6-Series in the form of a convertible. After two months, BMW finally showed us the hard top 6-Series Coupe, and I must say that it looks great. You may think that it is just the exact same car as the convertible but with just a roof on it. Well, not really.

To differentiate the coupe from the soft-top, the coupe will feature a much more high-tech-looking headlights and of course, the fixed roof. The new 6-Series may not look as dramatic as the previous generation, but set aside it’s bland looks and the engines available should make it a much more attractive package.

At launch, the 6-Series Coupe will have two engine choices, a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six for the 640i and a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 for the 650i. Power will be sent to the rear wheels via a eight-speed Sports automatic gearbox with paddle shifters for the steering wheel.

The 3.0 liter turbocharged engine will pack 320 hp at 5,800 rpm with a 0-100km/h time of 5.4 seconds, and a electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged engine on the other hand will have 407hp for the Euro-spec model while US-spec will have 400hp. 0-100km/h time are the same at 4.9 seconds but the top speed is once again limited to 155 mph. Not sure why the horsepower will differ for both the US and EU version, maybe is the different factory they were made in.

Optional equipments for the 6-Series Coupe are plenty which includes LED headlights and Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound System. Ticking the box for the LED headlamps gives you full LEDs for the front lights, from the high beam to the fog lamps, all will be LEDs. Xenons now seemed outdated.

Equip the pricey Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound System gives you exactly what the long name suggest. It consist an opera of 2 bass speakers, 7 mid-range speakers and 7 tweeters, all with individual amplifiers. A whooping 16 speakers in total! Aluminium speaker grilles completes the pricey package.

No pricing have been announced yet, but the 2012 BMW 6-Series Coupe will go on sale in Europe as well as in the US this fall. Can’t wait? Well we will get to see the car when it gets it’s first public debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April. Stay tuned and subscribe for more details! In the meantime, check out the huge gallery below which includes some photos of the new 6-Series Coupe being assembled!
