BMW 1-Series M Coupe Officially Revealed!

After being teased by BMW with their teaser video, the BMW 1-Series M Coupe is finally revealed with full details! As I wrote from my previous post, the M Coupe will have a twin-turbo 3.0 liter engine giving out 335bhp and reaches 62mph in just 4.9 seconds which is just 0.1 seconds slower than the M3. The chassis had been modified significantly with a 71mm wider front track and 46mm for the rear, the car will also have a 20mm lowered ride height for high speed stability.

The brakes will be the same as the ones from the M3 and the rims are borrowed from the M3 Competition Package and the M3 GTS, but the most interesting part of the car is it’s new aerodynamic technology.

The 1-Series M Coupe will obviously have a much wider body with flared arches, the car also has three main air intakes at the front. Middle to cool the engine and is covered with a honeycomb grille while the left and right are left uncovered and are used to cool the  coolant radiator and engine oil respectively.

As you can see from these photos, there are two more smaller air intakes at the very both sides of the front bumper which BMW calls the ‘air curtains’. Air will go through these to small intakes during high speeds and will create an air barrier around the wheels and to channel air around the wheel arches to reduce drag. The intakes on the rear however, are purely cosmetic and does not have any other functions but to look good. Further aerodynamics enhancements includes rear lip spoiler and slippery wing mirror design similar to the M3’s. And unlike the M3, there will be no carbon fiber roof for the M Coupe.

Interior wise, the car will be covered with generous amount of Alcantara with contrasting orange stitching which covers the steering wheel, gear knob, handbrake, dashboard and door panels. The M logo is also everywhere to remind you what kind of car you’re in.

Only three exterior colors are available disappointingly, which includes a non-metallic Alpine White,  Sapphire Black metallic and the Valencia orange you’ll see here. Where is the famous dark blue color which looks good on all M models? and why no matte color choices? Anyway, the BMW 1-Series M coupe will cost around £38,000 which is £13,000 cheaper than an M3. What do you think about this car? And which will you choose, this or the RS3?
